entrepreneur and great distiller, owner of Maison Ferrand. The story of Plantation begins in 1990, when Alexandre Gabriel visits Jamaica to explore the region’s spirits production landscape. Today, it produces and bottles top Caribbean rums.
Plantation 3 Stars
Freshness and complexity. Plantation 3 Stars is a tribute to the historic rums produced in the Caribbean, with a suave blend of the region’s three primary terroirs: Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad. While Barbados delivers richness and a balanced palate, Trinidad adds finesse and Jamaica provides an emphatic structure. A perfect rum for Daiquiris.
Plantation Original Dark
Wealth and authenticity. The rich and intense style of Jamaica and Barbados, with their notes of plum, banana and vanilla, is enhanced by meticulous blending and further maturation, in France. The result is a profound structure spiced with notes of cinnamon and clove, whose smoky quality adds texture. An ideal companion for cocktails.
Plantation O.F.T.D. Overproof 69%
Plantation O.F.T.D (Old Fashioned Traditional Dark) is a high-strength blend of rums, bottled at 69% ABV, ideal for use into Tiki cocktails and punches. The blend consists of rums from Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica. Rich and warming with notes of spice, coffee, orange and clove, this is excellent in cocktails.
Stiggins’ Fancy Plantation Pineapple
A tribute to the character created by Charles Dickens in the Pickwick Papers, Reverend Stiggins, whose favorite drink was “pineapple rum”. Plantation Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple rum, is the fruit of the labor of the collaboration between Alexandre Gabriel and David Wondrich. A rich and delicious bouquet, accented by smoky notes and aromas of tropical fruit, pineapple, citrus peel and a touch of clove.
Plantation Grande Reserve
Elegant and suave. American oak barrels play host to this rum where it ages for three to four years. Next a woody and nutmeg palette is drawn out in Ferrand French oak casks as the rum continues to mature for one to two years. The result is a subtle and tropical Barbadian style rum, excellent for aperitifs or classic cocktails like the Mai Tai.
Plantation XO 20th Anniversary
To honor Alexandre Gabriel’s 20th anniversary as Master Blender, Plantation created Plantation XO 20th Anniversary using a blend of quintessential extra-old rums from Barbados. First aged in bourbon casks in Barbados for many years, this rum is then sailed across the ocean in barrels to the southwest of France to be further matured in small Ferrand French oak casks. This centuries-old “double ageing“ process imparts incredible smoothness and complexity. With a remarkably long finish, Plantation XO 20th Anniversary is truly a rum to savor.
Plantation Xaymaca Special Dry
With Xaymaca Special Dry, Plantation revives the quintessential Jamaican-style, 100% pot still rums of the 19th century with an expression of intense flavors that reveal the traditional, legendary « Rum Funk »: aromas and flavors of black banana and flambéed pineapple, locally called “Hogo,” an Anglicization of the French term “Haut Goût” (high taste). Xaymaca Special Dry is a blend of rums distilled in the old John Dore pot still at Long Pond and the Vendôme at Clarendon. The idea is to boldly assert the powerful and expressive character of these rums.
Plantation Jamaica 2003
This perfect synthesis of two cultures – the Caribbean and Cognac – was created by two great connoisseurs: Alexandre Gabriel, creator and Master Blender of Plantation Rum, and Luc Satgé, who has been the faithful guardian of the Plantation cellars for more than 10 years. The obvious synergy between Alexandre and Luc played a key role in the resolutely Jamaican character of this rum, enhanced by those distinctive qualities that define Plantation: rare, precious and captivating. A new opus, and an exceptional one. This gem, aged 16 years in Jamaica in bourbon casks, followed by one year in the Ferrand cellars in France, is a charmed combination of intense fruit aromas like green banana, passion fruit and plum as well as hints of vanilla and bitter almond extracted during this very special double maturation. Pronounced fresh, fruity and encaustic notes mixed with passion fruit and green banana, elegant woody notes, prune, vanilla with bitter almond and fresh fig.
Plantation Fiji 2005
Exchanges of cultures and knowledge, innumerable tastings and passionate discussions between Alexandre Gabriel and Liam F. Costello at the Rum Co. of Fiji resulted in this rum. Distilled entirely in triple column stills and aged for 14 years in Bourbon casks in the mild climate of the Fiji Islands, this rum developed an expansive palette of different flavors. Building on this is Plantation Rum’s proprietary second maturation, for Fiji Vintage 2005 this means one year spent maturing in Ferrand French oak barrels in the House’s cellars in Cognac. Gabriel and Costello’s curation of casks in Fiji followed by this final ageing process in a continental climate, gives Fiji Vintage 2005 its unique character, aroma and flavor. Each step of the way, both the Fiji and the French teams worked hand in hand. The nose is intense, it starts on a fruity and spicy profile with/ cooked apple and prune, cinnamon and hints of galangal. It then evolves on golden syrup, pear, vanilla, and nutmeg. Mellow on the palate, it follows the nose with fudge milk chocolate, nuts, licorice an ginger. Lingering finish, on all spice, golden syrup, and galangal. A great sipping rum.
Plantation Barbados 2011
Plantation Barbados 2011 sparked especially keen interest from both Alexandre Gabriel and the West Indies Rum Distillery, Master Distiller, Don Benn. The rum rests in American Oak bourbon barrels for 4,5 years in Barbados, in a part of the distillery known as the ‘no man’s land’. This rarely visited part of the distillery, out of the pathway is a secret place only known by the master distiller and the master blender since the distillery’s creation. The barrels once selected from this secret garden, take on a journey through the ocean waves to their final destination at the Ferrand cellars in the Cognac region where they rest for an additional 4.5 years before reaching their peak state and unveiled for the world to enjoy. The nose opens with woody and spicy notes with cinnamon, pepper and ginger, then it becomes fruitier with raisins, prune and citrus peel with hazelnut and almond in the background. Gentle on the palate at first and very fruity on raisins and walnut, it then becomes stronger and dryer with tons of chocolate, caramel, vanilla and nutmeg with some dried flowers and cooked fruits and citrus peel building up sip after sip. Long finish on prunes, nuts, chocolate and pepper. A great sipping rum.
Plantation Peru 2006
This exceptional, rich and elegant Peruvian rum is the result of the collaboration between Alexandre Gabriel, Master Blender at Plantation Rum, and Jorge Luis Rodriguez Parajes, Master Blender at the Cartavio rum distillery. Plantation Rum Peru 2006 is a blend of rums resulting of three-day fermentations distilled in multi-column and John Dore-type stills. It also owes its personality to a double ageing process, a distinction that is the signature of Plantation Rum and a source of its resounding success. Distilled in 2006, this rum was first matured for eleven years in 200-liter ex-bourbon casks in the cellars of the Peruvian distillery. The rum then made a long sea voyage to France, where it was further aged for three years in Javrezac, in the Southwest of France, in 400-liter French oak barrels for that famous Plantation touch. Dark chocolate, nuts, vanilla notes with some woody highlights, followed by citrus and tangy notes of passion fruit on the nose. The palate is smooth, with chocolate notes followed by the freshness of exotic fruit. Long finish with hints of dried fruit, cinnamon and nuts.
Plantation Trinidad 2009
Limited to just 24 casks, the exclusive Trinidad 2009 expression was chosen from the cellars of Trinidad Distillers Limited by Alexandre Gabriel, Plantation Rum’s Master Blender, and Andrew Hassell, General Manager and rum historian at West Indies Rum Distillery. This superb rum was first matured for 11 years in 200-liter ex-bourbon casks in the Trinidadian distillery’s cellars. Plantation Trinidad 2009 was then treated to an additional one-year ageing period in Javrezac, in France’s Charente region, in 400-liter French oak barrels from Maison Ferrand. Nose of tonka beans, vanilla, caramel, coffee, cooked fruits, nuts with fresh spicy notes and a slight touch of floral hint. The palate is structured with hints of pastries while hinting at light petrol notes. Finish of bitter almonds, orgeat, plus hints of citrus layered with fresh fruits.
Plantation Australia 2007
Australia has been producing sugarcane eau-de-vie for nearly 150 years, earning its rightful place on the world rum map. Distilled in pot stills, Plantation Australia 2007’s great aromatic complexity owes its personality to the particular yeasts used during fermentation. Distilled in 2007, Plantation Australia was first aged for 13 years in ex-bourbon barrels in the cellars of Beenleigh Artisan Distillery. The 21 barrels selected by Alexandre Gabriel then made the sea voyage to Javrezac, in the Charente region of France, where the rum was aged for an additional year in Maison Ferrand French oak casks. Nose comes with stone fruits such as peach, apricot with hints of fresh vanilla, coconut, raisins and floral notes of iris and lilac. On the palate cooked fruits, citrus with hints of smooth cacao. The finish comes with exotic fruits with notes of vanilla and hint of wood.
