Alpha Estate
Alpha Estate is located in Amyndeon, North West Greece, in the heart of the Amyndeon appellation and in a significant geo-morphological site. With beautiful views over the Petron and Vegoritida lakes it lies between the picturesque Nimfeon village, the beautiful ski center of Pisoderi (Vigla) and the ski resort of Ag. Athanasios (Voras – Kaimaktsalan).
The altitude, exceeding 600 meters, its immediate proximity to the lakes, the moderate year long north west winds, low precipitations, the alluvium, sandy, low fertility soils, combined with a scientifically designed single block vineyard are the components to a unique terroir in which we achieve expression in the production of complex, unique and multidimensional wines.
Alpha Estate is the brainchild of two visionaries, the 2nd generation Vinegrower Makis Mavridis and the Bordeaux trained Winemaker Angelos Iatridis. Their aim is to promote the contemporary Greek vinegrowing and winemaking to the world.
THE PHILOSOPHY
Human factor is indispensible to the expression of all elements, gracefully offered by the unique ecosystem of the single block, privately owned 220ha vineyard in the production of our wines. Main feature of our work is the “soul’’ of the people that contribute every day to this dream. Respect to nature, combined with high quality and deeply eco-friendly growing practices and the typicity of the produced wines are possible with the implementation of mild, integrated viticulture and winemaking procedures, based on the most recent international standards. Professional know-how, experience and the team’s effort throughout all stages of production and promotion are necessary conditions to the desirable result, wines sealed under the Alpha Estate label.
Alpha Estate Axia
Splendid, purple red color. Complex, typical bouquet of spices (vanilla, pepper, clove), with hints of ripe blackberry. Full mouth, with vanilla aroma, rounded tannins, balanced acidity and wood tones. Long aftertaste with intense quince aroma.
Malagouzia Single Vineyard ‘Turtles’
Brilliantly, light yellow in color with greenish tints. Strong and lively nose, typical Malagouzia, suggesting rose petal with floral aromas and sweet spices, melon, litchi with a note of honeysuckle. Round and mellow on the palate, fat but balanced, high in alcohol with plenty of finesse. Well structured, reminding the nose aromas with a hint of rosemary. A richly textured wine with superb length and balance. A classy wine with long finish and persistent aromas.
Alpha Estate Syrah Signle Vineyard ‘Turtles’
Bright, deep ruby color. It has beautiful Syrah fruit silky and ripe. Rich and intricate bouquet, earthy, dominated by leather and cherry brandy aromas, with peppery and plumy background. Generous, full bodied, chewy, robust wine with a velvety taste. Vanilla, wood, mocha and toffee hints. Slightly tannic finish with long persistent aromas. Its potential complexity is under constant development. A “Vin de Garde” with a great future.
Xinomavro Single Vineyard ‘Hedhehog’
Bright purple-red color. Complex, typical bouquet of small berries red fruits, leather and spices (vanilla, pepper, clove), with hints of ripe blackberry. Full mouth, rounded tannins, balanced acidity and well integrated wood tones. Long aftertaste with intense quince aroma.
Alpha Estate Sauvignon Blanc
Brilliantly, light yellow in color with greenish tints. Strong and lively nose, typical Sauvignon Blanc, suggesting gooseberry, passion fruits, melon, litchi with a note of honeysuckle. Round and mellow on the palate, quite fat balanced although, with plenty of finesse. Crispy and well structured, reminding the nose aromas with a hint of lime. A richly textured wine with superb length and balance. A classy wine with long finish and persistent aromas.
Alpha Estate Rose ‘Hedgehog’
Bright rose color, with salmon colour hints. Fruity nose with rich expression. rose petals and strawberries. Well balanced mouth, quite full, fat but balanced, reminding the nose aromas, with long aftertaste.
Alpha Estate Omega Sweet White
Allowing the fruit to stay on the vine and dehydrate intensifies aromas and flavours to the point of perfection. Is a full body, full flavoured wine exhibiting rose-petals, pear and apricot character, and the spicy floral aromas of the Gewurztraminer grape. The residual sugar is well balanced by acidity, so that the overall effect is refreshing, neither cloying nor tart. This wine has a pleasant, long finish.
Alpha Estate Red S.M.X.
Deep ruby color with purple hints. Powerful, pungent aromas of sweet cherry, candied plum and toasty vanillin oak. Full bodied and deep in dark fruit flavors, with a peppery and strong oak spicy accents background. The solid tannins build through the finish but there is plenty of supporting depth of fruit here, not to mention a bright acid lift on the back that adds energy. A ‘’Vin de Garde’’ with a great future.
Alpha One
The wine maker’s choice. The best 17 barrels of each harvest were the winemaker selects to present the absolute expression and dynamic of the Amyndeon viticulture zone.
Fine, rich, intense. Some black fruit, spices, cassis. Quite complex, very long. Develops in mouth very good.
Ecosystem Assyrtiko Single Block
Crystal, bright sub-yellow – straw, with greenish hints. Nose intense and rich, complex, typical of the variety. Citrus, floral and white stone fruits. Excellent structure, creamy and crisp. Long and persistent finish.
Malagouzia Barrel Fermented Single Block ‘Latipes’
Crystal, bright light-yellow straw color. Intense, rich nose, typical of the variety, with floral, white stone fruit and hints of citrus. The wood is subtle, giving priority to the fruit. Full body, creamy, with excellent balance, freshness, and finesse. Vibrant and persistent aftertaste.
Ecosystem Sauvignon Blanc Fume Single Block ‘Kaliva’
Brilliant light yellow color with greenish hints. Intense and rich nose, typical of the variety, with citrus, passion fruit, honeydew and hints of oak. Full mouth, creamy, with excellent balance, freshness and finesse. Persistent after taste aromas with long finish.
Ecosystem Chardonnay Single Block ‘Tramonto’ White
Brilliant light yellow color with green hints. Intense and rich nose, typical of the variety, with citrus, white stone fruits, pear and hints of oak. Full mouth, creamy, with excellent balance, freshness and finesse. Persistent after taste aromas with long finish.
Alpha Estate Ecosystem Pinot Noir ‘Strofi’
Meticulous care in the vineyard and a gentle touch in the winery resulted in ALPHA’s PINOT NOIR. A wine of great intensity, balance and structure. Depth and concentration balanced by the fresh acidity and minerality that are typical of the site. Influenced by new oak, their subdued, alluring aromas, characterized from wild cherries aromas, with hints of spiced black plums, raspberries and cocoa seduce the educated palate, as does the vibrant acidity.
Ecosystem Xinomavro Reserve Single Block ‘BarbaYiani’
Bright dark ruby color. Complex nose with typical bouquet of sundried tomatoes, smoky black fruits, strawberries, dark cherries, licorice and spices. Full body, with rich fruit depth, blackberries, plums, herbaceous hints and oak on the back. Solid, velvety tannins and long aftertaste with persistent aromas.
Ecosystem Tannat Single Block ‘Vrachos’
Opaque ruby color. Fine, rich, intense. Black crystalline fruits, cassis, leather, cocoa, spices. Full body, creamy, with tasty ripe tannins. Well balanced and round with excellent development in the mouth and long aftertaste.
